Simon Lecture 2022

Dear Friends

Thank you all for attending the 2022 Simon Lecture in November of last year. It had been 4 years since the last Simon Lecture in Actuarial Science at MSU, and what a night this was. Excellent catering from our local partners, a view of Spartan Stadium as the sun set, and a speaker who was…online !

Our esteemed speaker, Dr. Harvey Stein contracted Covid-19 right before he was to fly into Michigan, but Harvey was determined that the show would go on. While he delivered remarks on current issues in risk management and finance, the audience also had the opportunity to ask Harvey questions about the financial industry. In doing so, the audience got a deeper look into the questions that quants themselves ask when faced with mountains of financial data.

As a picture is worth a thousand words, our friends at Good Fruit Video have put together a short retrospective video on the event. Please enjoy the video embedded on the home page, and we are also thrilled to announce the return of the Simon Conference for Young Researchers in Risk Management and Actuarial Science for November of this year.

A very special thanks to Ron and Mary Simon for their deep and continued support of our actuarial students and program as a whole.
